Virtual Dementia Tour - Virtual Dementia Tour ? Why Do you want to Participate ?
Langdon Place of Exeter and Senior Helpers of the Greater Seacoast will host a special event. The Virtual Dementia Tour as seen on ABC News.
People that have a diagnosis of dementia can become figuratively and literally lost. It is critical for caregivers, providers, and the general public to not only treat the illness of dementia but treat the person with the illness, despite the challenges that come with the diagnosis. We all know that dementia is an illness that affects the brain causing cell death resulting in cognitive dysfunction leaving the person unable to explain their feelings and behavior. But do we really know what it feels like to have the disease? This virtual dementia tour gives us a way to connect with our residents by experiencing the facets of the disease.
This experience gives a better understanding of the issues facing both the caregiver and the person who has dementia. Each tour takes approximately 15 minutes and we keep the groups small so 2 - 4 people per time slot. We will also have a debrief after the individual tour that takes approximately 15 minutes so plan on the time slot that you are choosing to last approximately 40 minutes. After all the sessions have been completed, scheduled sessions are from 8am - 6 pm, we will offer a dinner with any of the participants that would like to attend. The dinner gives everyone the ability to discuss their experience and share with other participants.
This is a must for all caregivers, family members, and people who want to learn more about dementia.
